To the opposing parties and their counsel, I offer fairness, integrity, and civility. I shall not knowingly make misleading or untrue statements of fact or law. I shall endeavor to consult with and cooperate with you in scheduling meetings, depositions, and hearings. I shall avoid excessive and abusive discovery. I shall attempt to resolve differences and, if we fail, I shall strive to make our dispute a dignified one
To the courts and other tribunals, and to those who assist them, I offer respect, candor, and courtesy. Where consistent with my client’s interests, I shall communicate with opposing counsel in an effort to avoid or resolve litigation. I shall attempt to agree with other counsel on a voluntary exchange of information and on a plan for discovery. I shall do honor to the search for justice.
To my colleagues in the practice of law, I offer concern for your reputation and well being. I shall extend to you the same courtesy, respect, candor, and dignity that I expect to be extended to me.
To the profession, I offer assistance in keeping it a calling in the spirit of public service, and in promoting its understanding and an appreciation for it by the public. I recognize that my actions and demeanor reflect upon our system of justice and our profession, and I shall conduct myself accordingly
To the public and our system of justice, I offer service. I shall devote some of my time and skills to community, governmental and other activities that promote the common good. I shall strive to improve the law and our legal system and to make the law and our legal system available to all
Can I help you enjoy that Snickers Bar?
Happy peanuts soar over chocolate covered mountaintops and waterfalls of caramel. Prancing nougat in the meadow sings a song of satisfaction to the world (the world!) that's right.
Here's the Video Snickers Song on Transbuddha (can someone transcribe the guitar?)
(Me up at does)
e.e. cummings
Me up at does
out of the floor
quietly Stare
a poisoned mouse
still who alive
is asking What

this poem gives me shivers.
It was Memorial Day weekend, 1999. I was finishing up my second year of law school and a group of friends had decided to get away and camp overnight. We drove north from Fayetteville, Arkansas on Hwy 71 to Noel, Missouri to camp on the banks of the Elk River. The place was called Eagles Nest or riverranchresort.com. It was Sunday afternoon and I remember once we got there that it seemed more expensive than it should have been. The place advertises one mile of riverfront campsites. We got one, after driving down a deeply rutted dirt road. The campground was at about 40% capacity. We set up our tents. I shared a tent with Charlie. Mary and Mary Katherine shared a tent. Wayne and Robin were in his pickup truck with a camper attachment velcro'd to the back. We grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and vegetables and drank beer. We listened to music. As it got dark, more and more people came down the road and filled up the park. By eleven, we couldn't help but notice that there seemed to be a lot of traffic on this road and the same pick-up trucks seemed to go by over and over. THEY were cruising! I remember hearing Kid Rock over and over and hearing the deep throaty modified carburator'd engine. When it was nearly midnight, we started to retire to the tents. I couldn't find Charlie. He had dissappeared after going to the concrete block bathroom a few hundred feet down the dirt road. I grabbed a flashlight and started looking for him. He was passed out in my car, drunk. I left him there and tried to get to sleep. The ground was hard-packed and very uncomfortable. Had Charlie already tried this and found a softer spot? I laid down and uncomfortably tried to find sleep. There was the constant noise of traffic going down the road cruising, like one would find in Panama City Beach, Destin, or Gulf Shores. The music, yelling and idling engines never seemed to stop.
I was awakened by someone yelling. Other than the voice, it was completely silent. I searched around for my watch. 3:30 in the morning! The one voice kept yelling "Get up, wake up" and this was invariably followed by a chorus of "SHUT UP!" or "Fuck You!" The first voice was coming from a truck driving up and down the road. He seemed to be driving up and down the road stopping and shouting. The dialog of shouts went on for nearly twenty minutes. Then a boat came down the river and started a new shout. "This is the McDonald County Sheriff's Department, there is an ammonia leak and we need you to leave your tents where they are and evacuate."
I rushed out of the tent at the same time as everyone else. I put on my clothes and grabbed everything of value in case we were robbed. We loaded up in two of the three cars and got on the dirt road before most of the other vehicles. It was now very crowded and apparently no one listened until the deputy announced the evacuation. As we left the parking lot and the gate, there was someone there telling us that we would be told when it was ok to return and he told us to go downtown. There was nothing downtown. We parked in the grocery store parking lot, it was supposed to open at 6:00. We all tried to dose but I don't think anyone did. A restaurant opened at 5:00, so we went over there and ate biscuits and gravy or cereal. When we got out, we were told we could go back. We went back for the tents and called it a weekend at nearly 6:00a.m. on Monday morning.
